Capacitar’s program of wellness practices and method of popular education have been field-tested with thousands of participants in the United States and in over 40 other countries. The following includes the research and findings of Founder Patricia Cane, Ph.D. carried out after Hurricane Mitch in Central America; a survey by Special Projects Director, Joan Condon, M.A. of the impact of Capacitar practices on the lives of participants; the Capacitar Research and Reflection Project carried out in 2009 & 2010 with interviews and focus groups in the USA and 12 countries; several dissertations and a thesis studying Capacitar methods in different applications.

In 2005, we responded to Hurricane Katrina by putting together this kit of simple basic practices for immediate use to help people deal with challenging situations, such as natural disasters, violence or chronic stress. Since then it has been translated into more than 20 languages and used in countries after tsunamis, earthquakes, floods and areas of ongoing conflict.
