Capacitar: A Brief History
Dr. Genevieve van Waesberghe, MMM, offered the first workshops to over 300 men and women in Juba and Wau, Southern Sudan as part of the diocesan campaign for 101 Days of Prayer for a peaceful referendum in Sudan. The workshops were coordinated by Cathy Arata, SSND, of Solidarity with Southern Sudan, in partnership with the Juba Diocese, Catholic Relief Services and other organizations. Participants included leaders from all the parishes of the Juba Diocese, representatives from the Ministries of Education, Information, Health and Social Affairs, UNMIS, Radio Bakhita personnel, teachers, nurses, doctors, students and those working with street children, youth, and rural communities. Most participants have lived through very traumatic experiences witnessing massacres, ambushes, and raids, or were refugees or soldiers.
